Brunch it Up

Cinnamon French Toast Sticks

If you’re reading this, you’re probably a Millennial (if not, hey Foodie!) and our generation has been the blame of many things- the housing market, Toys R Us closing, and so much more. But everyone knows that we as a generation, LOVE to brunch. Here’s a super simple recipe for one of my young brother and I’s favorite breakfast dish, french toast sticks. These yummy french toast sticks can be prepared by basically anyone and take just a few simple ingredients to prepare.

Note: I always like to keep heavy cream in my fridge because it can be used in almost any recipe- pasta sauce, creamy chicken, casseroles, desserts, and of course- breakfast. Be sure to tell your friends that you used a custard when making this dish. It’ll make you look even more bad and boujee.

  1. Cut each slice of toast or bread into your desired vertical strips. This usually ends up being four sticks per slice of bread for the perfect portion.
  2. Grab a large bowl and which together the eggs, heavy cream, cinnamon, sugar, and vanilla. Make a boomerang on your story to let your followers know that you're making homemade custard for a brunch made by yourself!
  3. Dip each piece of bread into the custard mixture until each side is well-saturated. This is not the time or place to skimp.
  4. Let any exess custard drip back into the bowl and place the coated bread sticks on a large plate or dish until all pieces of bread have been dipped.
  5. Heat a large frying or sauté pan over a medium heat and add 2 to 3 tablespoons of butter.
  6. Once the butter has melted, add several of the coated sticks into the hot pan. Make sure to do this in a single layer- no one has time for irregular cooked french toast!
  7. Cook french toast until golden brown on each side and flip to continue cooking on the opposite. Don't be afraid to flip on all flat surfaces for a crispier toast.
  8. Once finished, remove all french toast sticks from the pan and garnish with your favorite toppings such as cinnamon sugar. powdered sugar, berries, and maple syrup. Tag #MillennialMeetsStove in your pics!
